ABOUTTHE UNIVERSITY
Shandong First Medical University & Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences (SDFMU & SAMS) was formally established in February 2019, whereas its educational history can be traced back to the first official medical college in Shandong Province, Shandong Provincial Medical Training Institute, which was founded in 1915. By combining the resources of Taishan Medical University, Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences, Shandong Provincial Hospital, and Shandong Qianfoshan Hospital, SDFMU is dedicated to integrating applied and basic medical research with education and clinical services.
SDFMU is a key construction university and also the largest medical science research institution in Shandong Province. In 2020, it was selected as a “top tier” university in the Shandong Provincial High Level University Construction Project. SDFMU has campuses in Jinan and Tai’an, with the main campus located in the core area of Jinan International Medical Center (No. 6699 Qingdao Road, Jinan). Research institutions have been established in Jinan, Qingdao, Jining and other places, covering a total area of over 400 acres.
There are more than 19,000 employees (including staff from affiliated hospitals), among them 9 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 2 overseas academicians. SDFMU carries out a complete talent training system covering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. At present, there are over 25,000 full-time students, including 22,000 undergraduates, 3,300 postgraduates and more than 400 international students.
Clinical medicine, pharmacology and toxicology, biology and biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics, neuroscience and behavioral science, chemistry, immunology, microbiology，and social sciences, general rank in the top 1% of ESI global rankings, among them clinical medicine ranking in the top 0.80 ‰ of it. SDFMU has multiple affiliated hospitals and the number of outpatients exceed 10 million per year. Among them, Affiliated Provincial Hospital and Affiliated Tumor Hospital rank in the top 100 in China. Currently, SDFMU is guiding the province to carry out prevention and treatment of occupational diseases, skin diseases, parasitic diseases, tumors, radiation protection, blindness prevention, rare diseases, etc.
SDFMU is one of the first batch to award the Shandong Provincial Government Scholarship for Foreign Students. Since 2004, it has recruited undergraduates and postgraduates from over 40 countries and regions such as the United States, South Korea, and India, and has a good reputation for international education. It has established good cooperative relationships with universities, medical and research institutions in over 30 countries and regions.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The International Summer School at SDFMU will be held from July 19 to 28, 2024. With the theme of “Exploration of Medical Science and Qilu Culture”, the program seeks to provide high-quality academic programs that enhance the knowledge and skills of international students. The program will be taught in English with rich and diversified contents, covering practical courses in scientific research, traditional Chinese culture and Star Lecture. In addition, we have carefully planned a series of cultural experience activities, so that you can enjoy the scenery of Jinan with “lotus flowers on all sides, willows on all sides, a city of mountains and half a city lake”, or deep into the ancient city attractions and museums, to have a dialogue across the millennium with precipitation of Chinese culture , or visit Baotu Spring and Daming Lake to enjoy the beautiful spring city with “weeping willows in every house and spring water in every household”.We will also lead you out of Jinan, or climb Mount Tai, the top of the Five Mountains in China, or visit the former residence of Confucius, or experience an authentic Zibo barbecue, to feel the earthly flavors of a small town.
All courses will be held at Medical Science and Technology Innovation Center (MSTIC) in Jinan campus. MSTIC is an important scientific research and innovation platform built by SDFMU, which is a "special zone" and "highland" for scientific and technological innovation. Combining the latest scientific research paradigms, MSTIC explores the establishment of an appropriate scientific research organization and continuously innovates model, attracting high-level scientists from around the world to settle down. At the same time, MSTIC has established international first-class platforms such as large-scale instrument sharing platform, high-level bio-safety laboratories, and large-scale bio-sample banks, which are open to the society and have built the largest medical science and technology innovation platform in the province, of first-class quality in China and with international influence. Upon completion of the program, students will receive an official Certificate of Completion from MSTIC. The students who have good performance will have chance to get the Letter of Recommendation.

ELGIBILTY
Applicants for the SDFMU Summer School International 2024 should fulfill the following requirements:
Non-Chinese citizens;
Above the age of 18 and be in good health;
Studying in a university as an undergraduate;
With knowledge in related fields or showing interest in related fields;
Should be friendly to China, have no criminal record, and abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and the rules and regulations of the school.
HOW TO APPLY
Send us your information form (Enrollment Form is attached in the appendix) as soon as possible, then the Electronic Admission Letters will be sent to eligible applicants by email before July 2, 2024.

Application Fee (non-refundable) is RMB 600 per person.
If you wish to withdraw from the program for personal reasons, the application fee is non-refundable.
The vacancy of accommodation is limited and on first apply first served basis. Priority will be given to early bird applicants who complete the payment for application fee and tuition fees.

Program fees include: Full academic and term fees including use of academic facilities and labs, lab materials, accommodation, inter-city transportation, two meals a day (breakfast&lunch), extracurricular activities and trips, international students insurance, student supervision.

NOTICE
Students who have sent the confirm E-mail will receive a fee-payment notification. Students should complete the payment process within 5 days of receiving the notification. If payment is not received within the specific time period, the courses will automatically lapse. Once students have been selected and paid for, they cannot be withdrawn from or changed. The minimum enrollment for summer school is 15 students, The summer school will be canceled within this number, and affected students will be notified to have the tuition refund.

Course Information
10 days in the SDFMU, there is a Star Lecture, Research Skill Module (RSM). and Traditional Culture Workshop, when our academic staffs and professors will present an area of their expertise and/or introduce you to laboratory techniques used in medical science research.
Star Lecture:
Scientific lectures are a great way to learn about the latest advancements in science and technology.Attend Star lectures on cutting-edge topics delivered by renowned scholars from SDFMU and other prestigious universities worldwide.
Research Skill Module (RSM):
Have some insight into state-of-the-art research facilities such as 3D bio-printer, cryo-EM and so on.
Here provide different Research Skill Modules, seize this chance to explore groundbreaking experiments and witness the forefront of scientific innovation.
Traditional Culture Workshop:
Enjoy variety social and cultural activities throughout the program, including lacquer fan making and Chinese Calligraphy workshop, under professional guidance, you'll design and create your very own traditional masterpiece to take home! There also include excursions to Jinan City and other cultural landmarks, climb Mount Tai, the top of the Five Mountains of China, or visit the former residence of Confucius.
Poster competition & Student-led Poster Group Study (SPGS) :
There is a group poster competition on the last day of the summer school. Thus, a time slot is planned for you to have student-led group study for group poster preparation.

We will provide a standard accommodation environment, ensuring that there is a clean and hygienic room for two students, Every day, we will provide buses to take students back and forth between the campus and the hotel.
Other Items
VISA
Successful applicants will receive an Admission Notice for visa application.Students should refer to the nearest Chinese Embassy or Consulate and apply for visa in order to study at SDFMU. Leave sufficient time for your visa application. Processing time may be long during peak times such as summer. Upon receiving the visa, please check your visa expiry date, and ensure that you do not overstay; this will result in a heavy penalty or deportation.
